The nominations to be the HKCA Council for 2017 – 2019 are now being called. A notice of call for nomination and two nomination forms were sent to each HKCA fellow on 2nd May 2017 by post. The nomination form must be delivered to the College on or before Monday 29th May 2017 16:00.
Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology 2017 Let's go Beyond the Theatre. This year, the HKCA and SAHK will collaborate with the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia (ASCA) to bring forth this world class meeting to discuss the most heated topics in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. The theme this year is "Beyond the Theatre" and we’ll be looking at the heated issues arising in perioperative period. With a specific focus in perioperative geriatric care, enhanced recovery and sedation, blood management and other cardiopulmonary management updates for everyone, we wish to bring you a diverse platform for experience sharing. There are limited quotas for our masterclasses, hands-on ultrasound workshops and problem-based learning sessions. There are also dedicated sessions for HKCA new curriculum, medical-legal forum and adventures in anaesthesia that tackle problems in difficult situation i.e. without oxygen and electricity.
Updates on the collaboration with The Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) The HKCA delegation, which included Dr Simon Chan, Dr Chuen-ho Cheung (Victor), Dr Chi-hung Koo, Dr Hing-yu So, Dr Dione Szeto, Dr Man-kin Wong (Henry) and Ms Kristy Cheung visited the RCoA on 13th-16th March 2017. The visit included various meetings on review of HKCA new curriculum, programme for a train-the-trainer workshop and the implementation of FRCA Final MCQ in Hong Kong, meetings with RCoA trainee, and Dean of Faculty of ICM, in attendance at the SAQ standard setting meeting, demonstration of workplace based assessment and visit of ICM training centre – Royal Brompton Hospital.
Updates on new HKCA Curriculum The first draft of the new HKCA curriculum is underway and it was planned to submit to the HKAM in July 2017. The new curriculum includes 7 clinical fundamentals modules and 12 specialty modules. Various supervised learning activities (SLEs) are incorporated in the new curriculum as a summative assessment together with in-training assessments (ITAs). The SLEs may be new to some of the SOTs or trainers, train-the-trainer workshop will be organized in September 2017. The details will be announced soon.
Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament - Recruitement of Team Members Thanks to the Hong Kong College of Otorhinolaryngologists (HKCORL) for organising the Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament last year. It was a huge success. Having received positive feedbacks and encouraging responses, HKCORL is going to organise the tournament again this year.
Trainee Committee The newly formed Trainee Committee is now ready to facilitate 2-way communication between the College and trainees. Please give a warmest welcome to the committee members and feel free to contact the committee members and give comments on issues related to trainees affairs.
HKAM Young Fellows Chapter The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is forming a Young Fellows Chapter with the aim to provide perspective and advocacy of young Fellows to the Academy, to nurture young leaders, to engage them in Academy’s activities, and to connect young Fellows locally and internationally. Its governing council will consist of 15 young Fellows to be nominated by the Colleges. The HKCA has nominated Dr Man-kin Wong (Henry) to be the council member of the Young Fellows Chapter.
Korea Anesthesia 2017 The 94th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Korean Society of Anesthesiologists will be held on 2-4 November 2017 in Seoul, Korea. The details can be found here.
