Dr Zoltan Lett
The College regretfully informs HKCA Fellows and Members of the death of Dr. Zoltan Lett who passed away peacefully on the 15th November, 2014 at the nursing home. The family received condolences on Thursday 20th November 2014 at St. Peter's Church, Old Town, Bexhill-on-Sea, West Sussex, and U.K. at 2 p.m. GMT. Dr. Lett was a pioneer of anaesthesia in Hong Kong and the College arranged to send a wreath as a token of our appreciation of his standing within our Anaesthetic Community. The condolence book signed by Dr Lett's friends together with the commemorative book will be sent to Dr Lett's daughter. The following is the video produced in memory of Dr Zoltan Lett.

HKCA 25th Anniversary and SAHK 60th Anniversary To mark the silver jubilee of HKCA and diamond jubilee of SAHK, a series of events have been organized. The College co-organized our Annual Scientific Meeting with the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland which was successfully held on 22-23 November 2014. We published a commemorative book "125 Years of Anaesthesia in Hong Kong – Past, Present and Future". It was officially launched on 22 November 2014 and distributed at the International Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology (ISMA) together with the stamp pack. Every HKCA fellow and member are entitled to have a copy of the book and stamp pack. The College will contact those who did not attend the ISMA regarding the collection of the book and stamp pack. The commemorative book has also been made into flipbook and PDF versions so you may read the book via your tablet computer or mobile anywhere online.
To enhance public engagement, we produced a video of Patient Care and Anaesthesiologists which will be made available on Hospital Authority Channel. We also had interviews at RTHK Radio 1 and had posters road show at the hospitals.

Every HKCA fellow and member is eligible to purchase TWO medals at most. It costs HK$160 each (not including the delivery cost). Examiners’ Workshop With the active participation of the examiners and the contributions from the instructors, the Examiners’ Workshop was successfully held on 20 September 2014. The workshop focused on how to set questions and VIVA questioning technique and positive feedbacks were well received. Special thanks go to Dr Chris Leng from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the external examiner for the Intermediate Exam Aug/Sep 2014, Dr PT Chui and Dr Simon Chan for their time and contributions.
Board of Intensive Care Medicine Retreat Board of ICM organized a retreat on 25 October 2014 at Hong Kong Jockey Club, Shatin. The discussion was fruitful and constructive and the Board would like to take this opportunity to thank the participants for their time and contributions.
Student Exhibition HKAM Open Day was conducted successfully on 27 September 2014 (Saturday). The event attracted hundreds of career masters and teachers, university students, secondary students and parents. The College would like to thank Dr David Chong (QEH), Dr Angela Ho (QEH), Dr Jeffrey Ip (QEH), Dr David Lam (QMH), Dr Karen Lee (QEH), Dr Terence Luk (PWH), Dr Carrie Wong (QMH) and Dr Henry Wong (PWH) in representing the College to introduce our specialty to the public and making the event a success.
Retired Fellows and Members The HKCA Council (2013-2015) resolved to create of a “retired” class for fellows/members who opt to declare retirement (irrespective of age). To declare retirement, a written declaration from the applicant confirming that he/she had retired from all remunerative practice/job/business in or outside Hong Kong. The annual subscription would be waived for fellows and members aged over 65 or for those who have declared retirement (irrespective of age). The waiving of subscription will start in the following financial year after the fellow/member had attained aged 65 or over or after the retirement application received by the College secretariat. The subscription (whole or in part) already paid for that year will not be reimbursed. Fellows and members concerned must inform the College immediately should there be any change of their retirement status and the subscription waiver will cease to apply thereafter. The College would also inform HKAM of the application of retirement of the fellow, so that the CME/CPD will be exempted. A retired fellow who subsequently wishes to resume active practice will be required to have obtained the minimum number of accreditable CME/CPD points for one CME/CPD cycle counting back from the date of application in order to resume medical practice (please refer to CME/CPD Programme clause 27.1).

Exit Assessment Dates for 2015 The College has announced the dates for Exit Assessment in 2015.
Trainees who wish to sit for the exit assessment, please submit the fellowship application form with the relevant documents to the Chief Censor at least 21 days in advance with the project approval before the exit assessment. The applicants will NOT be invited for presentation at the Exit Assessment if pre-requisites are not met 21 days before scheduled Exit Assessment and thus will not be eligible for the very immediate Exit Assessment. It is the responsibility of the trainees and SOTs to ensure that the trainees meet all the required pre-requisites or else they will not get invited to the Exit. Trainees should ensure, together with the co-operation of the SOT to solicit the appropriate case mix and caseloads well in advance as per training requirements.
