Dear Fellows and Members,
I am very much honoured to be elected President of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists to serve our fellows and members over the next few years.
It is a challenging time ahead. As we celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2014 and reflected on the work of our predecessors in laying down the solid foundations for the college, we must be mindful of future challenges. These challenges take many shapes and forms, and may manifest as rising patient expectations, increasing demand from regulatory bodies, unrelenting media pressure, voices to match international standards, and so on. Our college must respond by improving our training system and education network to meet these challenges and produce highly skilled, compassionate and competent specialists to meet the needs of the society.
In the process of churning out our next generation of fine specialists, we should not lose sight of our main purpose, which is to help patients and maintain our standards. To achieve these aims, we need to recruit and involve younger fellows in college activities. We also need the wisdom and advice from more senior colleagues who can mentor and guide younger fellows. Through the many boards and committees, the college will actively collaborate with stakeholders both inside college as well as outside parties to move the specialty forward. I also hope to nurture closer relationship with our mainland and international counterparts to enhance our status and images.
The college is here to work with you and for you. We invite members and fellows to visit our website regularly to be better informed of current events and updated communications relevant to all of us. We treasure your comments, views and active participation in college events. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve you and the pleasure to work with council and board members to move our college forward and meet the challenges ahead.
